Valerie was born and grew up in the Rio Grande Valley, TX. She attended Parsons School of Design in New York, graduating in 2005 with a BFA in illustration. She currently resides in Austin, TX.
In her paintings she creates fantastical and surreal landscapes through a networking of objects and lines, and applies them in an appliqué fashion as a means to construct her new worlds of scrambled materials where stagnate women become matter in the clutter. Much of her work pertains to creation and birth. Something internal being forceably externalized. Her system of layering content keeps her creations open to new possibilites of expression, meaning and composition, therefore her original ideas are never fixed and the work is ever changing and always a discovery.
